It’s been a while since we did one of our “Knitting Radio” podcasts where we work on a specific project and talk about everything and anything that comes to mind. This week, on our channel, we are embroidering whiskers on our Magnus “Year of the Rat” hat as we talk about our recent trip to South Africa, Angora goats, Merino sheep and the men’s folk costume from Gudbrandsdalen that we are both going to be busy making this year. It was originally only conceived as a one size fits all pattern, but we have found a way to make it into 3 sizes: baby, small kids, everyone else. All the dimensions for the 3 sizes are now available in the pattern.

June 4 – 10, 2020: English Stately Homes, Gardens and Knitting in the U.K. (sold out)

October 9-12, 2020: Knitting retreat in Tono, Japan. Priority will be given to local knitters from the Tohoku area and to members of the ARNE & CARLOS Fan Club JAPAN.

TRIP REPORT FROM SOUTH AFRICA
And finally, because we talk about the wonderful South African trip that we did from February 6 – 10 so much, here is a little trip report in pictures from Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Knysna and the safari that we did at the Kariega Lodge, which is a game reserve in a MALARIA FREE area in the Eastern Cape!

Day 1: Arrival in Cape Town. Table Mountain was dressed with a table cloth!
Day 2: A visit to the Bo-Kap area in Cape Town before continuing on to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Carlos choice of shirt for this day was not intentional, but he does a great job in blending in!
Finally on our second day we got a clear view of Table Mountain! We are in love with this city!!
Walking around Babylonstoren, a wonderful farm about 40 minutes from Cape Town and on route to Franschhoek.
Arne is “blending in” at our beautiful hotel, The Protea Franschhoek hotel.
Lots of shopping in Franschhoek – also a few nice yarn shops.
Dinner at the Grand Provence vineyard in Franschhoek was a highlight! Stunning location and wonderful food!

Day 3: Driving along the garden route to arrive in Knysna and enjoy a sunset over the lagoon. Stunning!
Day 4: Great shot of Carlos with Plettenberg Bay and the Indian Ocean as a beautiful back drop.
Visiting a weaving studio in the Mungo Mill complex near Plettenberg, to learn more about South African textiles.
Arne and Githa, our tour leader, are ready for a quick Safari!
Kariega Lodge does very important work to help save Rhinos, who unfortunately are very vulnerable due to poachers. The game reserve is home to Tandy, the only Rhino ever known to have survived after poachers attacked her and cut off her horns.
So many beautiful animals, so much inspiration!
We could just sit and watch the elephants all day…
Giraffes are so impressive in real life!
The icing on the cake after a few hours of Safari were the complimentary sun downers and snacks!
A short but sweet stay in a beautiful country. We didn’t want to leave and we can’t wait to return in November!!
