Post-Easter Update on Carlos’ Health.

As most of you already know, Carlos tested positive for Covid-19 and has been seriously ill. As of now, he no longer has the virus in his body, which is a good thing, however, he is now unfortunately suffering from “Post Viral Syndrome” which is a complication from the virus and means that he is very weak and completely exhausted. He spends most of his time sleeping or laying down and has very little energy to do anything. It can take days, weeks or even months before he is fully recovered and right now, we do not know how long it will take before he is back. The doctors have put him on sick leave until April 20th, and will re-evaluate his condition at the end of this week.

We have promised to return to finish the daily quarantine podcasts and show how to put together the squares and we intend to do so – as soon as Carlos is on his feet – but it will take longer than what we had previously anticipated.

We thank everyone for their patience, understanding and continued support. Also, thanks for all the “Get well soon!” messages and wishes that you have sent to us and that we’ve enjoyed reading!

All best,

Arne

I enjoyed your blog on your library. I looked up the French book on Ornements de l’Art en Europe. It was available on Amazon for almost $1000!! You have a treasure! While I have missed your daily blogs, I would rather have you getting healthier, so take your time, rest, and drink lots of fluids, especially chicken broth. I have made all the squares except for the last one. I wanted 3 or 4 colors, and had an enormous tangle, which I then frogged. I may do it later, possibly in crochet. I am also working on a mobile of sea creatures for my grand-niece. The pieces await being sewed together and stuffed. I will post photos on facebook when it is done. (She turns 3 in May, and it was supposed to be a birth gift. I also read prolifically. Favorite books lately: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin and The Sleeping Dictionary by Sujata Massey. Both very compelling books. Stay safe and hope you get healthy soon. Amicalement, Lucinda

After a traumatic accident last year in May, I stopped knitting. I only took up my needles for the first time since because I was inspired and encouraged by your KAL Quarantine project. I am knitting each square, even if it’s slow going. I just want to thank you both for helping me ‘discover’ once again the joy of knitting and creating with my hands. I will pray for your speedy recovery, Carlos. I look forward to putting all these squares together with both your help. Take care, both of you! Stay safe. Stay healthy! Belated Happy Easter to you two, a speedy recovery for Carlos, and staying healthy for you, Arne! Sending you lots of sunshine, warmth and positive vibes from Germany. I can well imagine that Carlos needs lots of rest and sleep after having gone through Covid19, but he’s lucky to be under your excellent care, Arne! :o)
I’m currently doing one Arne & Carlos project after the other, and it’s keeping me sane in these times – I’m not or wasn’t in quarantine but self-isolating since late February for the sake of my husbands and my high-risk parents. I’ve also been insanely busy with providing the basis for digital content to our local parish website, and have a few crazy and exhausting weeks behind me. Between that and the corona-related anxiety I was dealing with, my usual low-grade knitting of socks and the occasional other small project suddenly became much more intense. I started with following your quarantine KAL videos, which was such a lovely break every evening, although I mainly continued with my current projects (socks and a lace scarf), and only made a knitted dishcloth after the meconopsis pattern. But just listening to you so often motivated me to do more, so I ordered suitable wool (I didn’t have any) and knitted one of the quarantine KAL patches, sunflower bomb, which in turn evolved in me suddenly wanting to try crocheting Granny Squares and finishing various projects after or inspired by one or other of your books (I have all but one of them). By now, I’ve finished a Christmas ball I knitted with tiny needles (for my big hands), knit my first Easter egg (with the same tiny needles), crocheted various squares already (I’m doing the pattern of the one with the red border in your garden book), finished a pair of socks (my mother’s pattern) and will tackle the unfinished second tøfle (?) I have in the works since about a year ago. Most times, I’m working while watching one of your old videos, which is big fun – I’ve started following your YT channel sometime last year, but had never really caught up with watching older videos. They’re such a treasure trove of helpful tips and ideas but also just lovely to watch and listen to.
Thank you both so much for providing us all with this amount of heartwarming, helpful, and lovely content over the years, starting with your books which have been a source of such wonderful inspiration for me long before I started to follow you online, too. I hope you’ll stay healthy and safe, Arne, and you, Carlos, will be soon have your energy and health back in full! ♥

We can keep on knitting squares from all the lovely examples that others have posted and our pillows can turn into blankets to keep us warm on chilly days. I hope Arne is developing some great cooking skills to serve up porridge and chicken soup without chicken and waffles. Can’t wait to hear what the culinary wonders you are working on. May the healing energy coming your way from this huge world wide knitting circle be a blessing to you both!

Take your time to rest and fully recover Carlos. I have learned a lot through the KAL and as well as making some of the blocks I am also knitting a hat using one of your patterns. Parcel delivery from overseas is almost non-existent in Australia at present due to the pandemic. So I feel very pleased that I have bought the last copy of your slipper book available in Australia and it is in transit to me. Many thanks for your quarantine podcast.

Carlos and Arnie, I wish I lived near by and could bring you good wishes and many of my good soups. I’m concerned for both of you and wish you all the best wishes. Take all the time you need.

FYI – I’m a crocheter, crafter and of Norwegian heritage. My great great grandfather immigrated to the US through the port of Bergen in the late 1800’s. Even though my grandmother was a knitter, I didn’t learn to knit, but she did teach me how to wind yarn into a perfect ball. As I watch your quarantine knit along, I have wanted to join, but was stalled. I now have a plan! I will be doing needlepoint on plastic canvas/mesh tissue box cover. Your patterns are only slightly smaller (number of stitches) than what is needed to cover the tissue box. I will be adapting the pattern and starting it as soon as the mesh is delivered. One side will be the “Hug Me Later” patch. When I finish it, I will send photos. It will be so cute and a memento of my stay at home time.

Improved health to you both. Barbara

    Hi Arne and Carlos.

Carlos — I’m glad you’re past the viral stage, at least. I wish you a full recovery, however long it takes.

I’m so glad to have met you in St Thomas, Ontario, Canada. I could hear Carlos comment on the splitty yarn at the crochet throw class. When I used that same yarn in the MKAL, I thought, nah, I’d rather have something better. So, inspired by your words, I bought some lovely, more robust and very round yarn (on the last day that our local yarn store was open), which is making all the difference in my blocks. Thanks for your inspiration, and the fun of the Quarantine MKAL.

Take care, both of you. Air hugs,
    Susan

My very best wishes to both of you. You have welcomed us into your home and although you say you started this quarantine podcast to keep yourselves occupied, you know by now how positively it has impacted on so many people around the world. And as a result, as well, you now have people around the world concerned for your health and keeping you in their good thoughts, wishing you well. I have found it to be such a treat getting to know both of you on a more casual, unrehearsed level, from Carlos’ organization to Arne’s kooky and dry sense of humour. Porridge varieties and subtle attempts to change up the coffee routine. Lurking in the bushes waiting to collect the mail to shirts covered in dead birds – or ones that mysteriously shrunk while hanging in the closet!

Thank you, both of you, for sharing your goodness and your generosity along with your creative talents. Take care of yourselves, get as much rest as you need, Carlos, and know we will be patient and only be happy once you are well and able to happily and comfortably get going again with the podcasts.

Be well, from a fan in Canada –

Life has certainly changed for all of us in many different ways. So sorry to hear about your illness, Carlos, and wish you the very best for a speedy recovery. I first started following y’all when I purchased your book, Field Guide to Knitted Birds, from The Net Loft in Cordova, Alaska. I’m actually from Florida – quite a distance from Alaska! I heard about the Net Loft’s “Copper Delta Birds by Hand” project and used your pattern, some hand spun wool and my limited skills to knit a very cute bird. Your Field Guide is an absolutely beautiful book with great, easy to follow instructions, and gorgeous birds of all types. I was very inspired by your book and am encouraged by the beautiful items I see on your YouTube channel. Thanks so much for being there for us!

    Hello
Great to hear you no longer have the virus in your system! I hope you continue to feel better as soon as possible.
I was linked to the group via a friend and am thoroughly enjoying making the squares.
So I just wanted to say thank you for helping me through quarantine and recovering from the virus too and also having a lovely keepsake of a difficult time.
    Kind regards to you both
    Juliette
