An update about my health and Happy Easter!

Hello everyone!

When we announced on Friday March 27th that we were going to extend the podcast for two additional weeks, I was so excited! At the time, I was brewing on a cold, but I thought it wouldn’t be too bad and that I would be able to follow up with the daily podcasts even if I might feel a little under the weather for a few days. However, by April 2nd, it was clear to us that I had more than just a cold, so we decided to postpone the podcast and to seek out some medical assistance. Two days later, I got the results from the medical examinations and it was now a fact that I had tested positive for COVID-19.

Our quarantine has now been upgraded to isolation at home for a few more weeks, while I recover from the virus. The first 10 days of my illness were very tough on my health, as I have experienced flu-like symptoms including high fever and great muscle pain. Luckily, I have had no respiratory issues. I am on the mend now, the fever has been gone for a few days now and I’ve started to gain my appetite again and hopefully I will have recovered fully by next week. I can’t wait to restart the podcast again and will let you know as soon as I am 100% back again and ready to go!

It has been very heart warming to read all your messages and lovely comments and so nice to know that so many of you care about me! Thanks so much for your kindness!

Arne and I would like to wish you all a Happy Easter! This whole ordeal will pass and we can’t wait to go back to giving out hugs again soon! We may be isolated, but we are not alone.

Love,

ARNE & CARLOS

PS: Because we live in the same house, Arne was also tested for COVID-19 but his test came out negative.

It is encouraging to hear that your fever has gone and that your appetite is returning. Good news for Arne, too–testing negative for the virus–marvelous! Take care and keep getting stronger. Dear Arne and Carlos – what an ordeal for you both. Carlos – I am so very glad to hear that you are feeling better, though I imagine it was a very rough couple of weeks for you. Arne – you must have been so worried.

I have become a big Arne and Carlos fan through this KAL. I am Irish and my husband is an American Diplomat. We are separated (not by choice, but by circumstance) from our children – we are at post in Serbia and our sons got stuck in the US (they are in college there) when the airports closed, before we could fly them to us. Our daughter lives in LA. The KAL has been the one thing I sit down to every day that keeps my hands busy, that always comes out right, and that helps keep my mind calm.

I want to thank you both so much for your generosity of time and experience during these difficult weeks and I very much look forward to seeing you on Youtube when Carlos is fully recovered.

Now I also look forward to ordering your books and yarn (we have no mail right now) and to someday participating in a workshop.

Thank you again, and please take care to be fully recovered before you start working again.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been so very ill Carlos. Happy you’re on the road to recovery. Arne, you stay healthy. I’ve enjoyed this quarantine KAL so much. The patches were just the right amount of knitting for each stay at home day. I feel my stranded knitting has improved with each patch. I’m going to purchase one of the new pillow patterns. Hopefully, when my LYS reopens I can find some great yarn for it. Please take care and a virtual hug comes your way from the US.

Since that is just about done, I’m thinking about ordering one of your pillow sets to knit. It will not surprise you that I’m not crazy about doing the purl knitting in fair isle. I don’t really hate but it just slows me down and it’s frustrating. I’m thinking about doing it in the round doing the front and back on the same pillow. I’m torn because I will do all that work and only be able to enjoy one side at a time. Perhaps I should knit it in the round and then steek both sides for two pillows. Do you have any suggestions on finishing? I could try and find your beautiful fabric for the backing of the pillows. Please take care!

    Carlos (and Arne):

I am very happy you are recovering Carlos !, but you did give me a scare as so many people are getting sick. Your podcast was the first time I tried knitting with more than one color to make a detailed design. I have only finished five squares and am continuing to finish the rest. I am a knitter, but a beginner to all this colorwork.

Thank you for giving so generously of yourselves, your time, and your knowledge. I so enjoyed your relaxed chit chat and it made me laugh, which is hard under these circumstances. I am healthy, but nervous to venture out of my house… but did go once to get groceries. since being in self isolation since March 13th.

I live in the North Carolina and we are getting warm weather now so let’s hope the virus gets tamed.
Blessings and Prayers for a healthy recovery. x0x0x0x0x0x.

So glad to hear you’re on the other side of this illness. I suspect that Arne had an asymptomatic case with his original “cough” a few weeks ago. This could also be the reason for porridge-gate as one of the symptoms is losing your sense of taste and smell!

Most likely Arne passed it on to you and your body reacted more severely. This would explain both why you became sick after the initial incubation period and your quarantine of 14 days and why Arne has tested negative right now (he has probably already had it).

Take good care and remember you are not alone. ❤️❤️❤️

Just joined! I love your books and patterns. Have only made one pair of socks using your special yarn but it was fun. I primarily knit socks (for myself and as gifts), shawls and some sweaters. Would like to do some colorwork. My mother taught me to knit when I had a tonsillectomy (age 7) and had to stay home for 2 weeks – so I have had experience with social distancing. About 10 years ago I got into knitting seriously and find it usually calming – if not, I put it away for another day. So glad you are recovering – I hope you keep this group even after the all-clear sounds.

Thank you for updating us, Carlos and Arne. Many of us were of course concerned about your health, at a time when even a little sniffle can mean something very serious. From the timeline of your original quarantine period, then your “release” into the world again, I’m wondering if you think you became infected after the original quarantine was over, or perhaps when you were in the UK?

Thank you for all you do, and continue to feel better!

I am so glad, Carlos, that you are healing and that it didn’t attack your lungs. How wise Norway is to quarantine … and that you took it seriously.

So, Arne, your cough wasn’t the virus? Maybe you had a slight case and have antibodies for it now.

Regardless, thank you both for the KAL. I have your Favorite Designs book. Such whimsical and delightful projects! Am also working on a market bag inspired by you.

Thank you for all the joy the two of you bring to this worldwide knitting community!

Early morning here and my nine-year old has prepared batter in the fridge so he can make norwegian waffles for the whole family as soon as he wakes up. For the second day in a row 😀 We have watched your podcasts now during our quarantine since we are all down and isolated since three weeks with mild covid-19-symptoms (I, my husband, and both children 6 and 9). Only me knitting but it has engaged both husband and children too. We love your podcasts! Thankfully you have been most kind to have a treasure of podcasts in reserve for us to watch now. My husband has even watched the one about knitting basics. The kids have been playing with Lego in the adjoining room while I watched in the beginning and everytime it was over I heard them asking for another episode since it is so nice to listen to the two of you while building Lego. Now recently they have been wathing with me.

Vad jag vill säga med allt detta är ett stort tack för den värme, trevnad, nyfikenhet och glädje, detta sammanfattas kanske i norska kos, ni förmedlat in i så många hem under den här oroliga tiden. Önskar dig god bättring Carlos!

You have been in quarantine for over 2 weeks and hardly went out shopping. It’s so hard to understand where you have contacted the Virus…. and then Bang, you got the Virus.
It just goes to show what we are up against, nobody is safe.
I am a Dane from Århus living in Newmarket, Ontario. As I live in a senior building we are in lockdown and my family shop for me and only FaceTime with family and friends… same goes for a neighnot and still she now got the Virus. From where? Apparently we now know that not all get any symptoms but still have the virus.

I have been loving the daily podcasts, I have been about a week behind the whole way through as I joined the party a little late but I am thoroughly enjoying the knit along and I am trying to savour the last few patches I have left to knit. I am making plenty of mistakes but it isn’t bothering me like it normally would with a craft project like this.
This is been a welcome bit of positivity, relaxation and sense of community that was much needed at this time. I am home alone with my 11 month old daughter whilst my husband is still going to work as a key worker, so to feel that there are a friendly couple of faces to see every day and listen to positive chat has been fantastic! Thank you so very, very much!

I only discovered you during this quarantine and I can’t express how much I enjoy your company. It’s the most uncanny thing, I feel like you are my friends. It Is because of the warmth your personalities exude and the love you share for each other. And you are funny.

    Hi, guys,

We, too, have not been well since we got home from the Trollfjord cruise. We are pretty much recovered now. Since we do not have testing readily available, we simply assumed the virus as a safety precaution and have kept ourselves isolated at home monitoring symptoms since we got back. We are just starting to venture out to walk the dogs. Wishing you a speedy recovery and hoping that Arne stays well. I deeply sympathize about the pain. I found some relief with topical aspirin cream – better than pills in my case.

G’Day Arne & Carlos … So sad to hear of this Carlos and wish you a speedy recovery. Arne was lucky; very lucky as its so contagious. We here in Western Australia are on strict social distancing rules, borders closed and so far our numbers are low compared to the devastation of other countries. The cruise ship travellers have unknowingly contributed largely to our situation; probably elsewhere also. Hats off to our front line medical and other workers all over the world. Aren’t we lucky to have our yarny craft to calm our minds, relax us and hopefully produce items to help others whilst we are confined to homes. I am undergoing chemo at present so doubly isolated. The future looks bleak for a long time I think – this pandemic is costing the world so much financially; not to mention the sadness of so many who have lost loved ones.
I have gained so much knowledge from you two clever souls and enjoy your interesting “company” online. Sending you both all the very best, and Freya, and look forward to better news soon.

    Hi Carlos and Arne,

I just recently found your website and YouTube videos, and was enjoying your knitting, etc. and how to make Norwegian pancakes. My mother’s grandfather was from Copenhagen, Denmark and I’m always interested in the culture from that area.

Thank you for being so inviting into your home, to see your beautiful designs, your knitting tutorials, and for you being you.

I am happy to hear from you via email that you are feeling better Carlos, and Arne please don’t get the virus and please stay well.

I have every size knitting needle known to man and all the yarn I could possibly need in this lifetime, so I am all set. Continue the podcast when you feel up to it, it is a bright light in this darkness that I pray will soon be lifted. Godspeed to you, Arne and to Norway!

I hope you make a speedy recovery and are back to full strength very soon. In the interim, I would like to thank you for the KAL, it is really enjoyable and is helping me to rediscover my interest in knitting pattern/colour work. It is over 20 years since I last did anything similar.
