Recovery update and information about our summer schedule on YouTube.

Greetings from Norway!

We have been spending time resting and recovering from Post Viral Syndrome in one of the most beautiful places in the world: the stunning Lofoten islands in Northern Norway, located beyond the Arctic circle, in the land of the midnight sun. Lofoten has always been a special place for us, and it was wonderful to come here to relax and recuperate after a very tough spring when we both got sick with Coronavirus and Carlos became critically ill.

We drove our VW Beetle from 1968 to Lofoten and we love taking photos of her with the stunning mountains as a backdrop. Click to enlarge.

In our opinion, this is one of the most beautiful places in Norway and in the whole world! So we keep coming back again and again! Click to enlarge

Regardless of the weather, the light is stunning in Lofoten. This photo was taken in Reine just after midnight. Click to enlarge.

For many, it’s hard to believe that this beach is located north of the Arctic circle! But thanks to the Gulf stream, the climate in Lofoten is mild all year round and there isn’t much snow in winter. Click to enlarge.

Hanging out in Å, Lofoten. The red cottages behind us are traditional fishermen cottages, called “Rorbu” in Norwegian. Click to enlarge.

We have also spent a lot of our time during the past three months outdoors in our garden, working with our hands, experiencing many good moments and enjoying a typical Norwegian pre-summer. Recovering after getting Covid-19 at the end of March has been hard for Carlos, but finally, after three months of struggles, he is now almost back to his old self again! This means that he will hopefully get back to work full time in September. As of July 1st, Carlos is on 80% on sick leave and working about 20% as he is not yet fully recovered and still has problems with his concentration and short term memory. I have been doing very well all this time, as I wasn’t affected as hard as Carlos was and by the way, a blood test confirmed one month ago that I was indeed infected by the virus in March even if I, at that time, tested negative.

Anyway, we are glad to put all of this behind us now, and we are both looking forward to a lovely summer followed by an exciting autumn season on our YouTube channel!

This week on our channel, we hope you will enjoy this short summer greeting recorded recently in beautiful Hov Gård, located on Gimsøya island, in Lofoten, Norway. We spent a fantastic evening riding on the beach and then enjoyed watching the midnight sun never set under the horizon. Being able to ride horses is very therapeutic and a HUGE victory for Carlos, as one of the things he has struggled with the most after getting Covid-19 in March was his balance. Information about our Schedule on YouTube in July

As many of you know, all the videos we have been showing on Sundays were pre-recorded in January, before Covid-19 came to Europe. We are now in a situation where we have run out of pre-recorded videos, and because of Carlos’ long-lasting illness, we have not been able to record new episodes at all during this spring. So, starting on July 12th, we will be publishing reruns of some of our favourite videos for a few weeks. To update them a bit, we have added new commentary to the videos we plan on rerunning, which we recorded here in Lofoten.

We will be back stronger than ever in August and September!

Now, the good news is that we have scheduled a new recording session with Erik, Anna and PJ to start filming new videos! So, starting in early August, we will be back with brand new material and Sunday episodes for you to enjoy and we also have some big surprises planned on our channel as soon as we are back!! We also plan on starting up our quarantine podcast again in September, this time, as a weekly podcast with a brand new name! This new weekly podcast will be published on Wednesdays and will be in addition to our regular Sunday sessions, which means you will get a double-dose of us every single week this autumn! Keep your eyes peeled for more announcements; we can’t wait to be back again!

Our webshop doesn’t take any holidays and is open 24/7, Click here for some great knitting and crochet patterns!

Please continue staying safe, make sure to social distance, wash your hands often and follow your health authorities’ guidelines, whatever it may be. We’d like you to know that even though we are both immune to the virus at the moment, we are still being responsible and consistently follow the Norwegian government’s guidelines and rules and will continue to do so for as long as it takes, in order to protect others from the virus.

We wish everyone a wonderful summer, we can’t wait to see you again in August!

Hugs from

Thank you both for posting an update on your health. For me, as for the luckier among us, you were the people I “knew” best who were going through the virus in front of my eyes! My little 9-block pillow top is gong to have such memories for me of those first, scary months of lock-down. Bless you both! Looking forward to new posts in August. Meanwhile, I’m casting on for a child’s version of the sweater Carlos was wearing on horseback.

Glad you are both doing well. I have really enjoyed the quarantine KAL and am on my second blanket.

I used to drive those old Beetles but I’ve got used to power steering now.

    • Michele on July 5, 2020 at 8:31 pm

I am so very happy that Carlos continues to recover. I have suffered from long-term illnesses plus taken care of those with long-term illnesses and recoveries can be very frustrating – both for the patient and the caretaker. So Arne, I am not forgetting about you. The care-taker is often forgotten, feels over-worked, or can feel neglected. Carlos seems very gracious so very possible that this is not happening. I hope that you both are able to remain strong throughout the process.

Prayers and well wishes for a full recovery.

    • Denise on July 5, 2020 at 8:45 pm

Dear Carlos, dear Arne, please keep taking such good care for yourselves and each other.
Perhaps we will meet again some sunny day in the future.
Until then, far away hugs from Jo An – Wolhalla – The Netherlands

What a beautiful spot to vacation and still be able to drive all the way there. I had to look it up on the map and then realized that I had been that far a North when I took a trip with my Mother to Sweden where we went to Abisko then on to the border with Norway. Wish we would have continued on.
Rest up and will be looking forward to your videos soon.

Oh, thank heavens! While you are recuperating, I have been knitting birds and making prosthetic legs to send to friends and family who are undergoing very difficult times. A simple thing like a knitted bird combined with the whimsy of steel legs brings so much cheer! Thank you!

What a great way to start my evening, seeing your beautiful video. Am happy both of you are feeling so much better. Looking forward to this next season of videos and chats. Although I did not make any of the squares, I looked every day at the marvelous work done by the members from around the world and it is fantastic to view such talent. The kindness of the people is so reassuring that humanity in large is of a caring and kind nature. Thank you for sharing yourselves and talents to all of us.

    • Susanne Møller on July 6, 2020 at 1:28 pm

Pooor, Carlos !!! So you had this *beep* bug really, really bad !
I know how weak and miserable one can be for months after an “ordinary” influenza, and this one is much, much worse.
We only hear about “infected” and “dead”( which of course is most horrible) , but I wonder how many of the millions of infected people who, like you, are out there and still being unwell months after .
It must be hard for Arne too, to see you suffer so much. Goood he wasn’t that ill also !!!
But good you have each other (and Freya ?)
Thankyou for thinking about your E-“family”, even in this hard time.

    • Ulrike on July 6, 2020 at 2:12 pm

Happy to see you both well in such beautiful surroundings. Lofoten is one of my dream places to live and has been for a long time.

Thanl you so much for the update. Don’t push yourselves too much, we can watch reruns as long as it takes. I came across some the other day, from 9 years ago, in Norwegian (?) that I couldn’t understand but still fun to watch, there were chickens.

    • Marguerite Annen on July 6, 2020 at 2:32 pm

I felt confident that you would be making a steady recovery, enjoying the long days, fresh air and beautiful scenery in Norway, but it is good to have that confirmed. Enjoy the rest of your summer break!

    • Judith Hakala on July 6, 2020 at 2:40 pm

    Carlos and Arne,

Thank you for the wonderful and beautiful update! Best wishes to you, Carlos, for your continued recovery. Each of you is so blessed for your relationship.

Just before the quarantine phase began I had the pleasure of attending a knitting class and the instructor suggested your YouTube channel to help me purl the Norwegian (THE ONLY!!!) way:) I have been a continental knitter since I was a child, over 50 years now…and learning to purl the Norwegian way has eliminated “rowing” in my straight stitch projects. It took time and perseverance but being a good Finn with a bit of sisu I have mastered the technique!

With great admiration from MidCoast Maine, Kittos to you both!

      • sue on July 12, 2020 at 9:10 pm

Judith–is “rowing” where one half of the V of the knit stitch is bigger (wider?) than the other? happens to me; one side is straight and the other curves. I knit continental but can’t seem to make heads or tails from Arne’s demo. (It needs better camera work)

    • Lucinda Lai on July 6, 2020 at 2:45 pm

Thank you for this wonderful update on both of you. So happy that Carlos is doing better day by day. Please rest as we will wait for you guys to come back on youtube. Norway is on my bucket list to visit in the future. I wish more people in the US would follow orders as this virus is nothing to mess with. Now some teenagers are having COVid-19 parties on who can get the virus first. This is insane! I read this to my husband and he wishes both of you the very best! Arne, have you learned how to cook yet?

    • Gudrun Callahan on July 6, 2020 at 2:46 pm

Stay well – stay safe – happy to hear the wonderful news about the positive progress! Thinking of you!

The way you two live your lives gives me some hope that humanity will get through this challenge and will be ready to
meet the next one. You are fabulous! You have been my inspiration ever since I bought your book on knitting Christmas Balls. I’ve done some of your dolls and have encouraged knitting friends to make their own dolls. And, knitted stars.
When I count up, I realize I have been knitting for 80 years (!!) and I’m still at it! Keep well.

It’s been a long haul for you and you need to continue to take good care of yourselves and not worry about us. We’ll still be here whenever you are feeling up to coming back. Don’t rush into anything and run the risk of any sort of relapse. Take care!

    • Martha on July 6, 2020 at 4:34 pm

Glad to see you both smiling and laughing under the summer skies while riding Icelandic horses along a beautiful beach in Lofoten. Just what you both deserve. Don’t worry, your archives of videos will keep us all quite content until you are both fully recuperated. No rush! I’m feeling inspired to knit your horse now.

    • Deborah Huss on July 6, 2020 at 4:34 pm

I just love both of you and am so happy to see that your health is improving. What a beautiful place to rest and recooperate! The community you have started continues and I look forward to the fall season when you start your podcasts again. I have learned so much from you and have almost completed my quarenteen pillow! Your positive attitudes after going through contracting the virus is inspiring. Thank you and take care!

    • Cindy Felisberto on July 6, 2020 at 4:51 pm

Love the encouraging news and your horse ride makes a great little clip to see that you do look like you’re both doing pretty well.
I’m on a one month boycott of Facebook, which a few of my friends have joined in, to encourage a stronger, more proactive ban on, and enforcement against hate speech and lies. It’s more of a challenge for me, I think, than it will be an impact to Facebook, but it is a little thing thing that I can do. I am missing our quarantine knitting group and am looking forward to what comes next.

Please stay healthy and safe God Bless.
My name is Sharon I live in Ohio hopefully I will live long enough to travel to your beautiful country.

So glad for the update! You both look great and your vacation spot looks wonderful. I ache from missing Beautiful Norway, even after just a short visit pre-corona virus. We only saw a glimpse of Northern lights, and I would love to experience the midnight sun. Can’t wait to see pics of your garden!

Hi, So glad you guys are doing well. Thanks for the update, I’m really looking forward to the episodes. The scenery is really beautiful and I remember the VW Beetle very well. I knew many people that had one years ago.

    • Summer on July 6, 2020 at 5:12 pm

    Greetings from Alberta, Canada!
I was watching and wondering what was happening, knowing the virus had visited you both.
Thankfully, though a tough path you went down, your both safely recovering. I suspected, Arne, you did indeed have that dreaded virus when you were coughing so much prior to Carlos getting in even harder. So glad you did not get as sick though. You were able to help Carlos recover.
I enjoy you both very much. Do make your patterns. I am nearing 80 myself. Taught myself to knit when I was five. Made some doll clothes and my grandmother was shocked one day passing me saying, “why this child is knitting.” I did not know but had decided to experiment. I had only used one of those ” spoolie things” to make ropes prior to that. I then started using chop sticks to knit ! NO one in my family did any crafts other than paint. I grew up on our 150 yr old farm in southern Ontario as a child ( I was fourth generation) The farm belonged to Indians prior to my ancestors owning it. Often as a child I went looking for arrow heads after hearing my grandfather mention it once had Indian village there. 🙂 Anyway, keep on KEEPING ON!

Glad that you both are feeling better. Thanks for the video of the beautiful scenery – also the pictures in this blog – I’m seeing places that I will probably never get to – they are absolutely beautiful.

Scary times for you, particularly Carlos. So glad to know you are on the mend. And what a beautiful place to recuperate. Thank you for the pictures, they’re amazing. Much love to you both!

    • Lesley on July 6, 2020 at 6:05 pm

I wish I was there – it looks so beautiful and you both look well. Could you tell me which was the Regia wool you used for the patterned horse please? I would like to use the same colourway but there are so many to choose from and I am not sure which it is. (If anyone else knows please let me know so as not to bother A & C on holiday!) Thank you so much and love to you both. Much looking forward to your new videos.

    • Elizabeth Sunday on July 6, 2020 at 6:32 pm

I’m glad you are doing well. Enjoy your holiday. I spent a year in Lofoten when I was a teenager (eons ago). It just may be time to return. 🙂

    • Bridget Danby on July 6, 2020 at 6:44 pm

I am so pleased to see you both looking much, much better, especially Carlos who was hit so hard by this horrible virus! Just take your time to really recover – small steps etc! Lofoten looks wonderful and such a tonic. I am sure all your followers around the world will be quite content to revisit old videos, look at your website and read your books until you are fighting fit! XXX

Greetings Arne and Carlos! So good to hear from you and to see with our own eyes that Carlos is indeed better. While I wish you hadn’t gotten so ill, Maybe the silver lining to this experience is learning and practicing self care, going slower, taking breaks, and appreciating the beauty all around you. Still savoring my travel experience with you guys in March, and dreaming of a return to Norway.

    • Fran Mues on July 6, 2020 at 6:53 pm

Glad to hear you are getting better and still taking precautions. You are two of my favorite people in the world. I live in the U.S., where we have a crazy president and continue to have too many new Covid-19 cases. I am fine–and I always take precautions.
Looking forward to more news about and patterns from you!
    (Cyberhugs are allowed.)

What a beautiful place to recover, ride horses, and experience the midnight sun. Greetings from NY where it is sunny and warm. John, Alice and I enjoyed your video and seeing the photos of your VW.
Alice got a 2002 beetle for her high school graduation present. In it’s own way it is just as beautiful. I think it only has 50,000 miles on it since Alice does not drive much.
We’re enjoying the weather, the garden and having time to relax and knit in the evenings. So far we’ve managed to stay healthy (despite being NY nurses).
I’m so glad you are both on the mend, and I’m so grateful for all you have shared with the podcasts and the Quarantine Knitting. It’s made such a difference in our lives. We’ve also had time to re-visit and enjoy several of your books. Who would have thought that we would spend more time with each other when we are forced apart? I feel that my community has grown, thanks to you two!

    • Catharina de Graaf on July 6, 2020 at 7:09 pm

Thank you for letting us know how you both are doing. I’m happy to read that you’re coming back .Whe don’t know each other but it feels like we’re friends. Again thanks and have a nice summer.
    Take care.

So good to hear you’re getting back to health. My husband and I were in Lofiten for a special birthday treat a few years ago. I’m sure it will do you both good and inspire you for the winter months. I’m fstill persevering with Norwegian style knitting getting better all the time but no way a master yet. I guess I should have started a while ago. Best wishes and look forward to your podcasts etc

I’m so glad to hear you are ever improving and ever enjoying your lives to the fullest possible. I love your photos and tried to lose myself in them by daydreaming of being there myself. You live in a beautiful country. Your beetle is so immaculate that it shows you lovingly care for it. I’m still watching your reruns but look forward to when you’re back live. Until then ….. joy, health and peace.

Please keep getting stronger and let yourselves take the time you need to heal. Your posts are such a delight for the mind and soul.

    • Janice Bartone on July 6, 2020 at 9:32 pm

Arne and Carlos. Beyond thrilled Carlos is at 80%. Arne so happy you did not have the full nasty effects of the virus.
The photos are breathtaking! I will have to put a visit on my bucket list. I love love horses and was a bit jealous seeing you both riding those Icelandic ponies. One of these days maybe I can ride again if my ignorant fellow Americans would just follow guidelines. Alas when we have a president that is as dumb as a box of rocks. Well I am sure you watch the news.
    Take care

Outstanding news, concerning your recovery. To have good health is one of the most important aspects of life, without it we have no foundation to carry on with the other aspects of life. Please continue to look after each other and only come back when you feel you are up to it. Think of you often.

    Hello from Charleston, SC.
I’m so happy to hear you’re both doing so very well. This virus has taken too many and recovery can be very long. Your vacation is awesome and that scenery is breathtaking. I’m very envious yet know you both need this . It’s Gods country.
Scenic panels on fabric are very popular here. Those pictures of Lofoten would be fabulous on fabrics and would be very popular. Just saying, since you’re dabbling in that industry. Lol.
Those of us who want this virus to go away have been sheltering since March as we wait for government to be serious and put strict guidelines in order. Since this hasn’t occurred except through some of our local mayors, we are facing a very devastating crisis in this country. Norway is leading in keeping this virus under control. I envy the leadership there. Please stay safe. Perhaps 2021 will be a good year. Prayers.
    Marlene and my dog, Summer.

Love this message and am so heartened and gladdened by all the loving messages back to you. You make the world a better place. I “met” you thanks to Covid-19, an ugly, tragic and devastating challenge made bearable by art. What we are left with, however, is a strong feeling of unity and company in isolation.

You have made a beautiful and powerful oeuvre and your easy and natural good manners, values and sensibilities have provided us all with an example to follow. Thank you.

PS I am falling in love with Norway.

    • Laurel on July 7, 2020 at 12:43 pm

Thank you for the update – you have both been in my thoughts. I am so glad to see that you are both feeling so much better and well on the way to a complete recovery! I love seeing your photographs and watching your videos. I started watching quite recently, so a lot of your videos are new to me. It is a joy to see the re-posted videos and catching up!

I had a holiday in the same Rorbu cottages in the late 1990s – at this time of year, too! What a wonderful time I had.
Hope that Carlos picks up well. I have had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for 10 years after surviving cancer and then getting Glandular Fever. Whatever you do, do it gently, don’t push and crash/ boom and bust. Look after yourselves!

    • Susan Flajnik on July 7, 2020 at 2:46 pm

So happy to hear from you both! We’ve missed you! You’ve given so much of yourselves, so make sure to take your time and fully recover. We’ll be here waiting.

Thrilled to hear you are both recovering, and that you are continuing with you video schedule on Wednesdays and Sundays. You both have been so important to my well being during this Covid-19, with your postings and comments. I am 77 years old, knitter, crocheter, needle artist, not to mention the Norwegian flavoring you sprinkle among your episodes. My partner had corona virus in 2019, he’s doing great.

Thank you for the beautiful photos of Lofoten you sent. Have a great summer. Even if it is summer time, I continue to knit. I have made a pair of mittens with nordik patterns with no fingers for my 13 years old niece and a knitted cactus and knitted soil (k1 p1). I will knit little flowers to put on it. After, I’ll make a needles case like a book with tapestry canvas and wool, and the pages will be in felt. Bye from Quebec city.
