Pull the yarn from the center of the skein. Cut off the yellow starter thread. Please not: DO not knit the yellow part of the yarn, as this only marks the beginning. Cast on stitches as you would normally and knit the sock from the top down. For a men’s sock we’ll usually cast on approximately 16 stitches per needle for a total of 64 stitches and for a women’s sock approximately 15 socks per needle for a total of 60 stitches.

Starting with colour 1, work the cuff. It can be a 1×1 rib or a 2×2 rib or a 2×1 rib or whichever rib you prefer. As soon as you get the first colour change, continue to work the patterned leg in stockinette. Next, as soon as the first colour from the cuff re-appears, work the heel. You can knit any heel you like (e.g. a short row heel or a heel flap)

Continue knitting the foot as you would normally, until you reach the desired length and then start decreasing, to make the toe.

For the second sock, pull the yarn from the centre of the skein again, unwind the yarn to the yellow starter thread and cut it off. Work the second the same as the first sock.
