Issue No.17 —  Free Stocking Knit-Along 2026.

Dear friends,

We’re writing to you from Eastern Greenland, where we’re spending our days knitting on top of the world with a small and wonderful group of fellow travellers. The light and silence here do something to you — they slow everything down, including your thoughts, which is perhaps exactly what we needed.

Because these past days have been difficult.

On August 28, we lost King Harald V of Norway. To us, it feels like losing our grandfather — and we know we’re not alone in feeling that way. He was deeply loved by so many Norwegians: a king who listened, who showed up for people in their hardest moments, and who, without ever seeming to try, helped us understand a little more about who we are.

And only a few days earlier, we lost Dolly Parton — who taught the world that kindness and sequins can absolutely coexist, and who spent a lifetime giving so much of herself away, through books, songs, humour and warmth.

Two extraordinary people, lost within days of each other.

We don’t think you ever really learn how to go on when people like that leave us — you simply learn to carry forward what they showed you was possible. And what both of them gave the world, in their very different ways, was an enormous amount of kindness.

We hope that’s the part that stays with all of us.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for every message of comfort you’ve sent us this past week. We read them all, even from the middle of the Arctic Ocean.

Now — September is here, and with it that familiar feeling that the knitting season is beginning again. After a summer of gardens, travelling and general distraction, the needles are coming back out.

And we wanted to give you something to look forward to.

This autumn marks the 4th year of our free Christmas stocking knit-along. As always, there is no sign-up, no list and nothing to register for. It will simply happen on YouTube and here on the blog, and you can join us whenever it suits you.

We know that some of you like to plan ahead — and some of you like an excuse to buy yarn — so here is what you’ll need:

We’ll share the stocking pattern, dates and all the details a little later. For now, you can simply gather your yarn and get ready.
