We are very excited to tell you that this year’s free ARNE & CARLOS Christmas Knit-Along begins on November 6!
For 24 days, we’ll be knitting a Christmas stocking together, revealing just six rows each day. As always, you won’t know exactly what the finished stocking looks like until it gradually appears on your needles.
There is no need to sign up or register, and we won’t be sending daily Knit-Along emails. All you need to do is join us on YouTube, where a new episode will be released every day at:
6:00 pm Central Europe
5:00 pm UK & Ireland
12:00 noon Eastern Time
9:00 am Pacific Time
2:00 am Japan — the following day
4:00 am Sydney/Melbourne — the following day
What you’ll need
Needles
Sets of dpns 3 and 3.5 mm / U.S. 2 or 3 and 4 or circulars if you prefer magic loop. No fussy gauge required.
We’ll be knitting the stocking in Rowan Norwegian Wool, using five colours.
You will need one 50 g ball of each colour:
Coastal Fjord 013
Vanilla Custard 021
Red Velvet 023
Emerald 017
Golden Nugget 012

Je crois bien que je me suis trompée. Je me lançais dans le projet un peu fou d’attaquer le jacquard norvégien et une chausette à 5 aiguilles en même temps alors que je ne l’ai encore jamais fait.
Ma seule expérience en ce domaine est de voir les doigts de mon arrière-grand-mère transformer magiquement un fil en chaussette en le faisant passer par ses nombreuses aiguilles. J’ai déroulé son fil durant des heures lorsque j’avais 4 ans. Et ensuite j’avais des chaussettes neuves !
Blanches et à motifs irlandais en relief.
Mais si j’ai bien tout compris il s’agit ici d’une chaussettes décorative. Pas un vêtement qui sera porté. la qualité de la “laine” à donc beaucoup moins d’importance que ce que je me suis imaginé il y a une semaine… Du coup, même si mes achats de fils de qualité ne sont pas encore là, je peux attaquer le projet avec ce que j’ai sous la main. Donc, je suis prête pour demain !

Hey there – I’ve spun and dyed all my yarn, save the Vanilla Custard. Not sure what to dye that skein with. No matter what, the stocking will be splendid because of the way it is made, knitting with hundreds, maybe thousands of people around the world.

Using circular knitting needles am
I correct at the sizes are 3.00 mm and 3.50 mm? For the knit along.
Please advise as i have ordered the five skeins of Rowan Norwegian yarn and want to make sure of the needle sizes
I have made these stockings for each of my grandchildren. I have two new grandsons so I have two new stockings to knit for this coming Christmas. So looking forward to making them.
I am excited to start this one and plan to do daily!! I have joined the other years but on my own time line! I love these stockings and they are great for improving my color work knitting!

Revealing just six rows a day for 24 days sounds like a lovely, steady rhythm, and I appreciate that you listed exactly how many balls of each color we will need. As a weekend quilter who likes to measure everything, I enjoy the idea of a project that grows in small, careful steps. The sense of surprise about how the stocking will look is a wonderful touch.

Excited to do my 3rd Christmas stocking. Since I have such a yarn stash to use up, I will be using Natures Spun in similar colors. I am so ready to start now! November and December get so busy but I have managed to get them done each time before Christmas. This one will be for my new Granddaughter.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! My 3 knitting friends and I are SO EXCITED to join in again this year! We have been knitting the mystery Christmas stocking each year, then we either get together for breakfast and a cuppa or ZOOM to show our progress and sit n’ knit for awhile. We all have our yarn ready to go. Thank you Arne & Carlos, for doing the beautiful stocking each year for us! (You really need to plan a trip to Williamsburg, VA USA and maybe do a trunk show/meet and greet with Bonnie the owner of our LOVELY new yarn shop Colorful Stitches located in Market Square) I would bring one of my favorite books I own of yours for your autograph and I know my friends and I would LOVE to meet you both!!!! This will be 4th year. I love the stocking KAL. Looking forward to knitting a new sock this year. It’s one of the highlights of the Holiday season for me.

In response to Catherine, those are 3 previous years’ stockings. Every year is a new design, which is revealed over the 24 days of knitting, but you can certainly find the previous patterns in their shop. You may have enough to do another stocking, it will depend how much of each colour gets used… I am using 100g hanks, so hopefully will have enough yarn & time to do a 2nd (and 3rd) for my kids by Christmas day… 🤞🏻🧶😅

Last 2 years, my stocking took first place in our local County fair in New York state, USA! I never knit a stocking or socks before the first one. I’m a fairly new knitter, taking it six rows a day really helped to finish it so it wouldn’t be a UFO (Unfinished object) or dead lady project for Arne to find in a thrift store!! Thank you for this KAL…I look forward to it!

I have done the Christmas stocking KAL each year. I’m in Australia &order the yarn from Wool Warehouse UK. Its a big stocking not a sock so i use magic loop circular, if that helps anyone
I like to knit socks on short circular needles… if you can’t get this wool, google the colours and find another brand in those shades perhaps? A lot of fun!!
Hello! I’m going to try the KAL: a fun concept, and I’ve never attempted socks before. However , I can’t source Rowan Norwegian here, although other Rowan yarns are available. To help me, can you give an indication of what ply the listed wool is? If it’s wool suited to a Norwegian winter, it’d be too thick for my winter, so maybe I could use Rowan alpaca? By knowing the ply of your chosen yarn, I can choose another Rowan yarn that is the same or close, and can probably work out what needle size. Would the needles be a set of four double-pointed , or a circular, or a clever way you might have for using ordinary needles!

I just heard about this today when I was tour guiding for an American group in Scotland today. I’ve never knitted socks before, so I need advice on needles. I believe it’s circular needles you use, but I don’t know what size. Help!
