Let’s talk about our latest knitting cruise and the granny square scarves.

This week we are back on Hurtigruten (The Norwegian Coastal Express) for our third knitting cruise. We are having a great time onboard with a group of 36 knitters and 14 non-knitting spouses, who have come from all over the world to meet us, learn from us and experience our beautiful country! This time, our group consists of knitters and spouses from Australia, Canada, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, the UK and the USA. It is a very international crowd and we are delighted to have 4 other Norwegians in our group, who have helped us show all our international guests our culture as well as how we knit and purl in Norway.

We have now done this northbound journey, which takes us along one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, 4 times and it never gets old! Every time we do this trip, it feels completely different because of the different seasons and different weather patterns. During this journey, we have experienced a bit of everything weather wise, except for snow. Despite having daylight 24 hours per day during this time of the year, we haven’t seen the sun since we crossed the arctic circle. We really hope the weather will clear so we may see the midnight sun tonight, but weather is the one thing that we can not control, so there are never any guarantees. In any case, it looks like our group is enjoying themselves immensely, regardless of the cloudy weather, and that is the most important thing! Here are a few images from our knitting journey, click on them to enlarge:

The views and colours are pretty stunning every single day. This is the perfect place for inspiration!

Mussels, king crab and white wine outdoors on deck 8. It doesn’t get better than this!

Enjoying the camaraderie with fellow devotees.

We saw this beautiful little light house a few hours after we departed Trondheim on day 3.

The panorama lounge on deck 8 is where we meet for knitting every day. The floor to ceiling windows allow us to enjoy the stunning views even when it is chilly outside.

Our group is working on the “ARNE & CARLOS Mystery Knit Along” which was designed and prepared by us. A clue is given every second day and everyone knits the same thing. Everyone is excited about the end result, which will be revealed on the day we arrive at the North Cape.

This is the Mystery Kit that all our knitters receive on arrival. If you are coming on the cruise next time and don’t want any spoilers, don’t worry! We change the kit and the project every time!!

There is always a great view to enjoy when we are out on deck.

A great place to sit and knit when the sun is out.

The magnificent “Trollfjord” (Fjord of the trolls) photographed at 10:58pm. Even if it’s cloudy, we have eternal daylight this time of the year.

We encourage our knitters to customise their ARNE & CARLOS project bags. Tanja took customisation to a whole new level!

The boat stops in Honningsvåg on the penultimate day – this is the gateway to the North Cape.

The harbour in Honningsvåg is very picturesque.

Another wonderful knitting cruise is coming to an end. We’ve made loads of new friends and tomorrow we will disembark the MS Finnmarken with loads of great memories from the past 6 days. We are already looking forward to our new knitting adventure, when we board the northbound MS Trollfjord in March 2020!

If you are interested in booking a knitting cruise with us in Norway, it’s good to know that they sell out very fast, so we recommend that you get on our waiting list asap! Please email our tour leader.

At the time of writing this, we only have 4 spaces left for our next knitting cruise, which will take place under the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) in March 2020. Click here for more information about the cruise.

Now, let’s talk about our crochet scarves:

Who said that sock yarn is for socks only?! In this week’s tutorial on our YouTube channel, we show you how you can create your own unique scarves, using our Regia Design Line or Regia Pairfect yarns. These are so much fun to crochet as each square will be completely different from the next and you will be waiting with excitement to see how they will turn out once they are finished! The pattern for this scarf is available here.
