HOW TO KNIT A HAT USING 96 STITCHES

This time, I have the task of doing the video tutorial all by myself, as Carlos was busy working on something else. See the tutorial here

We developed what we call the “perfect pattern for a fair isle hat” many years ago. The hat is worked with 96 stitches, a good stitch count since it is a multiple of 4. It makes it so much easier to design fair Isle patterns and balance them properly on the hat.  We  have knitted this  with Schacehnmayr Merino Extra Fine 85 on big needles and goes really quickly.

MATERIALS

Yarn: Aran weight yarn: Schachenmayr (Patons in the UK)  Merino Extra Fine 85, 100% virgin wool (92 yd/85 m / 50 g). You will need 4 colours, and 50 grams of each colour. Buy the yarn here.

Needles: U.S. sizes 7 and 8 / 4.5 and 5: 16 in / 40 cm circulars; U.S. size 8 / 5 mm: set of 5 dpn

Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4 x 4 in / 10 x 10 cm.

Adjust needle sizes to obtain correct gauge if necessary.
